Using Perspective
DP1 Lesson 5:
One- and Two-Point Perspective
In this lesson, we explore one and two-point perspective and learn about the origins of perspective in art. We learn how to use perspective techniques to create the illusion of three-dimensional space on flat surfaces by viewing examples and drawing buildings with one- and two-point perspective. We define key terms, such as horizon line and vanishing point, and their application in perspective drawing. We also view, analyze, and interpret Eastern and Western uses of perspective during the 12th and 15th centuries to gain a better understanding of how perspective was applied in the art of different cultures. Last, we reflect on how the use of perspective in art alters the interpretation of subject matter.
